Czechia 2024
From Wednesday 14th - Wednesday 21st August 2024, Royton Explorer Scouts intend to take a group of Scouts and Explorers on a full week trip to Czechia (Czech Republic)
This brings back a tradition, sadly defeated by Covid, where Royton Explorers would run an international trip for themselves and their feeder Scout Troops every 3/4 years.

The last one was to Austria in 2018 where we took around 30 young people plus leaders from 3 different Scout groups and Royton Explorers.

When is it?
The trip will be from Wednesday 14th August - Wed 21st August 2024.
We will depart by plane (likely from Manchester although this is to be confirmed) on the Wed 14th and arrive back on Wed 21st.

Where is it?
For 2024, we'll be staying at a Jeka site called Tisina in their large building, all together as one group. The site is approximately 1 hour west of Prague.
Jeka Tisina is a campsite ran by the outdoor company Jeka (who we have worked with on many occasions). The site is approximately 1 hour from Prague's airport.

Jeka will provide shuttle transport directly to and from the Airport and the site, and buses for any travel needed during the week for activities.

Czechia itself is landlocked in central Europe and is bordered by Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and Austria. Formally and Eastern Bloc country it's culture and history are very different from the UK's and for any one who's not visited an Eastern Bloc country, the experience is fascinating, some of which we'll soak up while we're there.

What will be happening while we're there?
Scouts and Explorers will be taking part in the same activities through the week which we expect to include activities like Rafting, Quad biking, Canoeing (with the potential for a 2 day river Canoe trip) along with some cultural experiences including the potential to visit Prague and potentially a WWII concentration camp as we soak up both Czechia's current culture and it's past.

How Much is it?
The trip is expected to cost around £900 each (with some accommodation having being made for inflation and potential for Euro/GBP exchange rates to fluctuate).

We are therefore asking for £650 from each participant directly to cover the main costs and then seeking to fundraise the remaining £250 per person both individually and as a group. The more we can raise per person, the more activities we can do while we're there.

We are asking for an initial commitment of £40.00 as a deposit, followed by incremental payments throughout 2023 and 2024.

We will then be asking that everyone (Parents included) get's involved in fund raising the additional £250.00 per person. We will look to run some event's, but cannot take the full weight of the fundraising without help from everyone.

Further details around cost and fundraising can be found here:

Who is going?
It is hoped that Explorers from Royton Explorers, along with with Scouts from Royton, Chadderton and Shaw will join us. 3 Leaders from Royton Explorers will lead the trip with support from other scout leaders from the feeder groups.

We need a minimum of 40 people to join us for this to be feasible.

What's Next
In order to join the trip, we will need a deposit of £40.00 paid by Saturday 30th September and our sign up form completing
For Scouts, the deposit should be paid to your Scout Leader who will collate centrally. Explorers please pay as you would for other events.
This deposit (and all funds deposited afterward) are non-refundable.

In the event that we are not able to gain enough participants for this to be feasible, the £40.00 will be returned promptly.
